HAPPY HERBIVORE - YOUR GUIDE TO VEGANISM
Being an omnivore is no longer the in thing. Instead, we are turning to herbivorous lifestyles, but what is veganism anyway?
Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products, and all other animal-derived ingredients. Interestingly enough, vegans will also likely avoid the use of all personal and household products tested on animals and avoid purchasing and using all animal-derived, non-food products, such as leather, fur, and wool.
Would you honestly try and be vegan even for a week?
FUN FACT NO 1: A vegan diet has been proven to lower cholesterol, prevent heart diseases and protect against certain cancer such as prostrate and breast.
For the longest time humans relied on animal produce for survival, which is clearly seen in the hunting and gathering stages of life. Till date most of us say they can't survive without animal produce in their diet.
However, it has become more evident that our environment is incapable of supporting our current level of food production for much longer.
FUN FACT NO 2: According to scientists at the Smithsonian Institution, seven football fields’ worth of land is bulldozed every minute to create more room for farmed animals and the crops that feed them.
Therefore, feeding animals grain crops that could otherwise be fed to humans is an incredible waste of agricultural land making veganism a great step in the right direction.
FUN FACT NO 3: Numerous animals are usually still alive during the skinning, scalding, and dismemberment process in a slaughterhouse.
Competition in the animal industry, has led to firms taking part in vile practices during both the nurturing and the slaughterhouse process so as to receive competitive advantage. The rise in veganism has led to the fall in meat demand in many countries and the saving of just as many animals from brutish processes.
Its clear as day that such a diet is very beneficial to our health, sustainable to the environment and friendly to animals. Extremely hard to maintain, cause who doesn't love a bit of cheese here, bacon there and some fried chicken to dance around in your taste buds.
Well, after reading these facts about veganism I pose the same question that I did earlier: Would you honestly try and be vegan even for a week? Share your thoughts in the comment section. Until next time, SLAY!
